Why Netflix

For years everyone went to the neighborhood video store to get their movie fix. You got a membership and started renting movies. If you didn’t return them on time, you had to pay late fees. Late fees were a battle zone for customers versus management, they could get huge. Back then we were watching movies on our VCR’s.

This got so big that huge franchises took over the industry. Companies like Blockbuster Video, and Hollywood Video were in virtually every town across America. Eventually we move to the DVD era. Now we still go to the “video store” but we get our DVD’s. We still have to return our movies, or we get charged late fees. Read more below...

We lived in our movie rental world like this for years on end. We dropped by our local rental store, picked up a few movies, and returned them when we were done. If we were late we got stuck with late fees. This part was so bad that we would drop off our movies in the middle of the night and be afraid to go rent more movies. Who wants to fork over $50 in late fees when you want to rent a movie?

Someone got to thinking, and came up with a new solution. With everyone getting computers in their homes, a new possibility started to emerge. A new company, called Netflix offered a completely different solution for movie renters. There are a couple of key differences that make Netflix a step above the old video store. The first thing is that you don’t have to drive to the video store any more. Instead you order your movies on the Netflix website from the comfort of your living room, or wherever you computer is. Then, the movies that you order are sent to you, so you just pick them up out of your mail box.

There are a couple of other differences that complete the improvements that Netflix offers. It is a monthly membership, so you can watch as many movies as you can get to in a month for one fee. But the biggest feature, NO LATE FEES!! You keep any movie sent to you until you are done with it.

When you are finished with a movie, you simply return it in the mail. As soon as it arrives at Netflix, they look in your queue and send you your next DVD. What can be easier than that? This approach seems to be the next generation of movie watching.

Recently, Netflix has added another fantastic feature. Anyone who has a membership gets access to a library of “streaming videos”. This means you can watch the movie on your computer (or through an Xbox right onto your TV!) without downloading it or having a DVD to insert. They have a massive library of films that they offer in this format. They offer a library of over 12,000 titles that you can watch in this way. That’s quite a package when you look at it. So, at this point it seems like Netflix has the best movie rental solution out there. So go ahead and use movie download services!
